Meet Our Team
Blackstone Homes founder Matt Johnson brings over 20 years of construction experience and an entrepreneurial vision to the team. With a construction management portfolio including more than $200MM in various projects, Matt understands that hard work and planning are the only true paths to success.
Having worked alongside his uncle’s framing crew in Centerville, Texas, at just 10 years old Matt recognized that construction and project management run in his blood. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 2004 alongside his uncle’s framing crew in Centerville, Texas, Matt took his management talents to Dallas, where he supervised the construction of over three-hundred new homes for KB and Bella. Not satisfied with working for other builders, in 2007 Matt founded Amstad Commercial Construction. Then in 2008, after winning key bids including the statewide Wells Fargo/Wachovia bank conversion contracts, he founded Blackstone Handcrafted Homes. Since that time, Matt’s business team has grown with the co-founding of Stafford Barrett Commercial Brokerage, where he also serves on the Board of Directors. In addition, Matt currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Brazos Valley Homebuilders Association.
Matt loves to travel with his wife Vanessa and children Alethia and Archer. His other passions include flying planes and scuba diving — he is certified in both. And while Matt’s free time is very limited with his busy schedule, when it does come, it is quickly filled with golf, playing guitar, or following the Fightin’ Texas Aggies’ many sports teams.
Co-founder and designer Vanessa Johnson has been bringing her creative flair and entrepreneurial spirit to everything we do at Blackstone Homes since its creation in 2008. Vanessa’s father was in the Air Force, and she was fortunate to experience living all over the country from San Antonio, Texas, via Panama to Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Then in 2005, Vanessa graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Marketing and Real Estate from Baylor University. Vanessa’s rich cultural background has proved invaluable in crafting what we do and how we do it.

Chief Operating Officer
Jasen Coots, Chief Operating Officer, joined Blackstone in 2014 and is in charge of company operations and finance. Jasen can usually be found operating behind the scenes, assuring the daily operations of Blackstone flow in a manner that allows us to deliver the highest quality homes. He truly enjoys the entire process of homebuilding, but his favorite part is the long-term relationships he develops with each customer.
Raised in rural Centerville, Texas, Jasen grew up knowing the value of hard work and the commitment it takes to be successful. He graduated from Midwestern State University (but is an Aggie at heart) and after college moved to College Station and entered the healthcare industry. For 12 years he used his knowledge of process and efficiency to lead several departments in the healthcare administration before joining the Blackstone team.
Jasen is also Vice President of Amstad Commercial Holdings, and in 2015 he became a founding member of the Stafford Barrett Commercial Brokerage — overseeing team operations and finance for both. Outside of his companies, he is the founder and current chairman of the JRMT scholarship fund, a non-profit organization started in the name of his friend who sadly passed away in 2005.
Jasen is an avid golfer, but plays just about any sport he finds time for: (certified) scuba diving, basketball, soccer, hunting and fishing. He’s married to his high school sweetheart, Shawna, and they have two daughters, Jaselynn and Brynleigh, whom Jasen coaches in soccer.
New Home Consultant
As a Blackstone New Home Consultant, Jeremiah McKee’s mission is to make new-home dreams come true. As a family man, he understands how important it is that everyone in the family feels comfortable about buying a new home, and he strives to make the process as stress-free as possible. Originally from Colorado Springs, he is a graduate of Utah State University and joined the team in 2017.
On his days off, Jeremiah spends his time with his wife Makenzie and their two sons Jack and Jones. He loves music and plays piano and keyboard — he has even performed all over the country with his band. While Jeremiah’s touring days may be over, nowadays you’ll find him enjoying the outdoors, especially when playing golf.
Director of Operations
Director of Operations Russell Blythe joined Blackston Homes in August 2016. Originally from El Paso, Texas, and a graduate of Adams State University, he brings 30+ years of experience in information technology and project management — with half of those years spent in the homebuilding industry — to the team. Today Russell is responsible for back-end operations including all estimating, purchasing, accounting and IT.
When not at Blackstone, Russell loves spending time with his family and exploring a variety of interests, including grilling and BBQ, traveling, board and video gaming, and golf. In addition, he enjoys road trips in search of great hole-in the-wall, mom-n’-pop dive restaurants.
While Telly Murphree’s official title is “Project Superintendent,” around here we like to call him our “Master Craftsman.” Telly is a second generation homebuilder, following in his father’s footsteps since he was a child. In 1997, Telly began his venture into plumbing, soon earning the distinction of Master Plumber and opening his own company. However, even though he enjoyed this line of work on multi-million dollar homes, Telly longed to return to the family heritage of home building. In 2012, he joined the Blackstone team.
Telly is an outdoorsman who loves fishing and catching snakes in his free time. He is, of course, a huge fan of Texas A&M sports.
Joe White is a customer relations expert and project manager for Blackstone Homes, and joined the team in 2013. He brings a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of both residential and commercial construction to the team. Having experience in all aspects of project management — from the bidding stage to completion — Joe’s responsibilities include project management, customer satisfaction and warranty coordination. He is driven to deliver more than just a great home; he is dedicated to building and maintaining relationships based on trust.
In his free time, Joe enjoys hunting, fishing and a variety of other sports. He especially loves being around friends.
